Welcome to the Barnet Loop Engagement Hub

The Barnet Loop is a proposed 17-mile walking, cycling, running and wheeling network.

This network will connect the urban areas of Hendon, Colindale and Edgware with Barnet, Totteridge and Whetstone via existing walking paths such as the London Loop and the Dollis Valley Greenwalk. It will link green spaces, town centres, schools, community amenities and residential areas within the borough promoting active travel.

Due to its length, the Barnet Loop has been divided into eight segments to enable us to engage effectively with our residents and also phase how we deliver the Barnet Loop when funding is available. This is shown in the plan below.

We want to hear your views on the proposed route and what we can do to make it safe, attractive and inclusive for all.

Why do we need the Barnet Loop?

Barnet is experiencing a period of significant growth and regeneration. The borough has high levels of car use which can bring risks to road user safety, congestion on our roads for critical journeys and health and air quality impacts for our community.

Transport for London (TfL) estimate that there are almost half a million journeys per day in Barnet which could be made by walking, cycling and wheeling.

The key barriers to walking, cycling, running and wheeling are environments dominated by high traffic speeds and volume with limited or no dedicated walking or cycling provision causing road user safety concerns.

A comprehensive and accessible network for walking, cycling and wheeling can encourage physical activity, and bring health benefits to users. It can encourage people to make active modes of travel their default choice for short trips and help reduce traffic congestion. It will also alleviate road- based emissions and pollution and contribute to a cleaner, greener borough.

How to get involved?

The proposed Barnet Loop is split into eight sections providing local connections to leisure, employment, education and some key attractions in the borough.

Each section of the Loop is explained in full below and there is an opportunity to feedback on each of the eight sections.

Your feedback will help inform how each section is designed to ensure the route meets the needs of local communities.

Key Dates - We will be hosting three in-person drop in events during the engagement period. The project team will be available to answer your questions and provide you with information about Barnet Loop during the drop-in events.
