Buses are a vital and growing part of Barnet’s transport network: passenger numbers on routes passing through Barnet have increased to 208,000 bus trips per day.
Three quarters of Barnet bus passengers have also returned since the coronavirus pandemic showing that the network is recovering in terms of customer numbers. However, passengers wait approximately 20% longer than intended on high-frequency routes and travelling within the borough by car is typically two to four times faster than taking the bus.
The council is consulting on new proposals for bus lanes and infrastructure across the borough to contribute towards being a Net Zero borough by 2042 and our Long Term Transport Strategy. In 2022/23 Transport for London contacted LB Barnet to work with them to provide bus priority to meet the Mayor’s ambition of 25kms of new bus lane by 2025.
We are currently focusing on areas of our network which currently cause buses to be delayed.
