Background

The aim of the A1000 Barnet High Street scheme is to improve bus journey times for the 34, 84B, 107, 184, 234, 263, 307, 326, 383, 384, and 389 bus routes. Currently along Barnet High Street scheme area there are approximately 6,700 bus boarders/alighters per weekday with more travelling through.

We have reviewed bus journey time data which shows southbound and northbound there are delays for bus services. We have undertaken traffic modelling at the junctions and parking and loading surveys to make sure any proposals do not affect alternate modes too much.

Bus Lane proposal

The proposal is to implement a northbound bus lane between Meadway and Fitzjohn Avenue and a southbound bus lane between Wood Street and Normandy Avenue.

The bus lanes will be operational Monday to Saturday 7-10am and 4-7pm. This will mean parking/loading will be amended between Meadway and Victoria Lane northbound to “No loading Monday to Saturday 7-10am and 4-7pm”.

To accommodate buses to access the bus stop effectively we are considering altering the kerb alignment at Bus Stop Barnet Church (Stop K) and considering single yellow blips to be updated to double blips between 72 Barnet High Street and 64 Barnet High Street/ between Bedford Avenue and 7b High Street.

Furthermore, Bus Stop Barnet High Street Barnet Church (Stop H) is proposed to be relocated 7m south east.

The inset parking bays between 20-24 and 10-16 Barnet High Street will remain the same (Pay by Phone Mon-Sat, 8am-6.30pm). No parking loss will occur as part of this scheme. However 47 spaces will change their loading times to align outside of proposed bus lane operational hours.
