Background
The aim of the A598 Regents Park Road scheme is to improve bus journey times for 13, 125, 143, 326 and 460 bus routes. Currently along A598 Regents Park Road scheme area there are approximately 2700 bus boarders/alighters per weekday with more travelling through.
We have reviewed bus journey time data which shows northbound and southbound there are delays for the bus services during peak times on weekdays. We have undertaken traffic modelling at the junctions and parking and loading surveys to make sure any proposals do not affect alternate modes too much.

Bus Lane Proposal
The proposal is to implement a northbound bus lane from Henlys Corner to Embassy Lodge and a southbound bus lane between Bus Stop Allandale Avenue (Stop TA) to Bus Stop Henlys Corner (Stop TB).
The northbound bus lane (Henlys Corner to Embassy Lodge) will be operational Monday to Friday 7-10am and 4-7pm. This will mean parking/loading will be amended between Henlys Corner to Embassy Lodge in bus lane areas – “No parking and loading Monday to Friday 7-10am and 4-7pm”. The southbound bus lane (Bus Stop TA Allandale Avenue to Bus Stop TB Henlys Corner) will be operational Monday to Friday 7-10am. This will mean parking/loading will be amended between Bus Stop Allandale Avenue (Stop TA) to 62 Regents Park Road – “No parking and loading Monday to Friday 7-10am.”
Two loading bays (currently outside 217-219 Regents Park Road) are proposed to be relocated onto North Crescent (one south and one north side) resulting in two parking space loss on North Crescent. Furthermore three parking spaces are proposed to be removed opposite 44-64 Mayflower Lodge. This is to accommodate the bus lane and retain parking on the western side of the carriageway.
Bus Stop Henlys Croner (Stop TP) is proposed to be relocated 15m northbound meaning three car park spaces are proposed to be removed. This is so the bus lane can tie correctly into the bus stop.
Due to the uncontrolled parking this will affectively mean 48 spaces are changed to align outside of bus operational hours. 6 spaces are converted from double yellow lines to align outside of bus operational hours, 2 loading bays relocated, and 12 parking spaces are removed.
We are also proposing junction protection markings or double yellow lines at the junction of Cyprus Road / Regents Park Road to aid pedestrians to cross safely. Visual narrowing of Charter Way / Regents Park Road will also hopefully improve safety.
A cycle box (advanced stop line) for cyclists to wait at the front of traffic is proposed on Gravel Hill at the junction with Regents Park Road. This is to provide safer facility for cycles.
