Background

The aim of the A598 Ballards Lane scheme is to improve bus journey times for 13, 125, 221 and 460 bus routes. Currently along A598 Ballards Lane scheme area there are approximately 2,300 bus boarders/alighters per weekday with more travelling through.

We have reviewed bus journey time data which shows north-east bound and south-west bound there are delays for the bus services during peak times on weekdays. We have undertaken parking and loading surveys to make sure any proposals do not affect alternate modes too much.

Bus Lane Proposal

The proposal is to implement a north east bus lane

Bus Lane Proposal

The proposal is to implement a north east bus lane from Waitrose (Bus Stop L Woodberry Grove) to 305 Ballards Lane and a south west bus lane from Christchurch Avenue to Bus Stop Granville Road (Stop LL).

The north east bound bus lane (Waitrose- Bus Stop L Woodberry Grove to 305 Ballards Lane) will be operational Monday to Saturday 7-10am. The south west bound bus lane (Christchurch Avenue to Bus Stop LL Granville Road) will be operational Monday to Saturday 4pm-7pm. This will mean parking/loading will be amended between Christchurch Avenue to Woodberry Way in bus lane area to No Parking and loading Monday to Saturday 4-7pm.

Double Yellow Lines are proposed to replace existing white line road marking between 220 to 224 Ballards Lane to enable buses to egress from the stop efficiently and safely.

Visual narrowing of Moss Hall / Ballards Lane and Christchurch Avenue / Ballards Lane is proposed to make it safer for pedestrians and a Yellow Box junction is proposed opposite Alexandra Grove and Hutton Grove on Ballards Lane to replace existing Keep Clear markings.

No parking spaces are proposed to be removed under this scheme.
