A huge Congratulations to Fiona Quinton for her winning project GRUBS (Green Roofs Upon Bus Shelters).
Competition winner, Fiona Quinton, said:

Fiona has won £5000 to put towards her idea as well as prizes given from one of the challenge Sponsors, Microsoft.
Anna Tobin came in second place with her project Eco - Mobility winning £3000 and Karem Salas, with Eco Learn and Play came in third place receiving an impressive £2000.
After an intensive selection process, the Judges also decided to give 3 highly commended awards to
Saurabh and Paarth Aggarwal for their project 'BarnetAI' - Transforming communities through intelligent waste management and minimising environmental impact to support net zero target
James Masters with 'Swap'O'Rama' - A platform for residents to exchange gently used items
Charles Parkes with 'Improving Recycling In Barnet' - A project to develop a 'recycle in Barnet' website and a community engagement strategy

About the Challenge
Last October (2023), Barnet Council in collaboration with Middlesex University launched the borough’s first ever BarNET ZERO Challenge; a competition which encouraged anyone who lives, work or studies to come forward with innovative ideas and provide practical solutions for reducing carbon emissions and help in our ambitions to become a net zero borough by 2042.
With over 100 initial ideas, which were developed into 22 workable solutions (following workshops and guidance from our sponsors Microsoft, NatWest, and Brent Cross Shopping Centre, as well as Middlesex University Academics).
We are really pleased to announce the top three finalists. Anna Tobin – with Eco Mobility, Fiona Quinton – with GRUBS and Karem Salas – with Eco Learn and Play. You can find out more information about their ideas below.

Anna Tobin - Eco Mobility Within the last year, my dad went from walking unaided to a wheelchair. During this time, he spent a fortune on walking aids, in the hope that they would make his life easier, but many of these quickly proved unsuitable and were consigned to his garage. What is Eco Mobility? Eco Mobility will revolutionise the accessibility market by creating an ‘approved used’ marketplace for mobility equipment.
