Overview

Barnet has a great collection of parks and open spaces, and these are an important part of what makes Barnet a green and family friendly borough. We have been allocated £750,000 funding to improve play facilities across the borough and have identified five playgrounds which would benefit the most from refurbishment.

As a result of this allocated funding, earlier this year we designed a set of individual draft designs for each of the five playgrounds and during the summer we sought your views on all five playground designs.

Princes Park allocated funding and proposed play facilities

In total £185,000 has been assigned to Princes Park for improvements to its play facilities. This includes £20,000 from the play capital fund, £150,000 from East Area Committee and £15,000 Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy.

The proposal is to make improvements to the existing playground, create a new older play area and potentially make changes to the football goal. The existing zip wire will remain, as well as the swings and the roundabout in the existing playground.

What are we seeking your views on?

Since the initial consultation in the summer we have been reviewing your feedback and revising our proposals. This consultation is seeking your views on the revisions we have made to Princes Park play facilities based on the initial feedback you gave us during the summer.

How to give your views

Please take the time to review the revised layout for the Princes Park play facilities and 3D image of the teen area and then complete our online questionnaire.

If you would like an alternative format of the questionnaire you can do this:

  • by emailing parks@barnet.gov.uk or telephone 020 8359 7404
  • alternatively, you can write to us at: parks@barnet.gov.uk or Greenspaces, London Borough of Barnet, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, NW9 4EW

What happens next?

The council will review the outcomes of the play consultation 2nd phase to see if people are happy with the revised location for the teen equipment and the revised equipment proposed. The council will review the views on the football goals. The council will then agree the final plans with the play contractor and the play contractor will be commissioned to carry out the work within the budget that is available. The work is likely to take place in spring 2023.

The council will publish the consultation findings on this page and we will also let you know how we are acting on the results of the consultation under ‘We asked, You said, We Did.’

    We asked

We asked for your views on the revised location for the additional play equipment in Princes Park, and views on the revised equipment, as well as the provision of football goals.

    You said

We received 36 responses to the online questionnaire, and we received five direct emails.

The summary of the responses is:

    • all respondents were happy with the revised location of the additional play equipment
    • almost all respondents were happy with the revised equipment
    • almost all respondents wanted no football goals.

    We did

An order has been placed to refurbish the existing playground and install new equipment on the space where the long log currently lies. This is the location and play equipment described in the Phase 2 consultation. The estimated date for this work is April/May 2023.

An order has not been placed for football goals, so the one existing football goal will remain.
