Barnet has a great collection of parks and open spaces and these are an important part of what makes Barnet a green and family friendly borough. This consultation is asking for your views on proposed improvements to West Hendon Playing Fields (you can view the location on the map at the bottom of this page). We previously asked for your thoughts on possible options for the site and, using this feedback, we developed a draft Master Plan which was approved by the council’s Environment Committee in March 2019. Now we are undertaking full public consultation on this draft Master Plan.
Background
Barnet Council appointed The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) in 2018 to undertake an appraisal of the options available to the Council for the development and creation of a sports hub with associated community facilities at West Hendon Playing Fields, in line with the recommendations of the Parks and Opens Spaces Strategy and Playing Pitch Strategy.
SLC engaged with local stakeholders and residents in May 2018 to understand their priorities and obtain views on what improvements they would like to see on each site. SLC used this information together with other research to develop an initial draft masterplan.
Further engagement was undertaken with local stakeholders and residents in November 2018 on the initial draft masterplan. The results of this further engagement were used to inform the development of a final draft masterplan for West Hendon Playing Fields.
This next phase of engagement is to undertake full public consultation on the final draft masterplan to gather feedback from residents.
