West Hendon Playing Fields and Associated Community Facilities - Master Plan engagement

This consultation has now closed.

Overview

Barnet has a great collection of parks and open spaces and these are an important part of what makes Barnet a green and family friendly borough. In 2017 Barnet Council created a Parks and Open Spaces Strategy and a Playing Pitch Strategy which reviewed the parks and put forward suggestions for their development.

In line with the strategies' recommendations, the council has appointed The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) to undertake an appraisal of the options available to the council for the development and creation of a sports hub with associated community facilities at West Hendon Playing Fields.

Give us your views

Please give us your views on the options by completing the online questionnaire. We welcome responses from everyone including organisations interested in the future development of these sites. We would also like to hear the views of people from outside the London Borough of Barnet area.

To request a questionnaire in an alternative format, please:

  • email: nicola.cross@barnet.gov.uk,
  • telephone 020 8359 7404, or
  • write to us at: Greenspaces, London Borough of Barnet, North London Business Park, Oakleigh Road South, London, N11 1NP.

How we will use your feedback

SLC will use the results of the engagement to inform the development of an options appraisal report for consideration by the council. This will lead to the development of a draft master plan for the delivery of the preferred option, which will be the subject of further engagement later in the year. Amendments will be made as necessary to the draft master plan following this further engagement, and it will be brought to a meeting of the Environment Committee. Subject to the outcome of this meeting a full public consultation on the final master plan will then take place.

We received 219 responses to the online engagement exercise. The proposed long list of potential facility development options was welcomed by many of you. However, you said it was important to consider the impact of any development near to the Welsh Harp and local wildlife, flora and fauna.

In addition, a number of suggestions were made about the site which were taken into account such as the need for improved park maintenance and management, better connectivity to and throughout the Playing Fields site and a desire to improve and enhance the ecological interest of the wider site.

    We did:

We reviewed all the responses submitted and the results were used to inform an Options Appraisal Report for the Council to consider.

Following the Council’s feedback on the options appraisal report, SLC will develop a draft Masterplan for the site based upon the preferred options.

The draft Masterplan will be used to engage further with local residents and stakeholders later this year. Feedback from this engagement together with further consultation with Barnet Council will inform the development of the final Masterplan scheduled for completion by later this year.
