Have your say on our proposals to help reduce traffic overflowing on to residential roads in the Burnt Oak and Colindale area
As highlighted in our Transport Strategy we are committed to making Barnet roads safer for everyone living, working and visiting the borough. We aim to create an environment that will encourage more walking and cycling, improve air quality and reduce emissions in the borough.
We also know that levels of non-local traffic are at times too high, including vehicles trying to avoid traffic congestion on our main roads by taking short cuts through residential roads. The areas of Burnt Oak and Colindale have been highlighted as particular areas of concern by local residents and we are therefore proposing to introduce some new traffic restrictions to help alleviate these problems in this local area.
What we are proposing
To help alleviate these problems we are proposing to introduce traffic measures in Booth Road and The Greenway which are aimed to help reduce vehicles taking short cuts through these roads and also intended to improve air quality, road safety and reduce noise from vehicles and traffic.
The proposed scheme is a type of road closure known as traffic filters which are enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The cameras are used to enforce ‘No Motor Vehicle’ restrictions where an access exemption is in place.
These traffic filters may mean that some local residents and businesses with properties in Booth Road and The Greenway will need to change their routes in and out of the roads to avoid passing the proposed enforcement cameras. However, at all times there will be no measures preventing residents and businesses accessing their properties in these roads.
For further information on our proposals please read our consultation document which includes a map of where the proposed schemes will be implemented and further FAQs on the proposals.
