In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones.
Last summer, a survey was undertaken in the Brent Cross Cricklewood area to assess the parking needs and where parking restrictions would be required to ensure the safe operation of the road network. The roads covered by the survey in the area included Brent Terrace, Clitterhouse Crescent, Clitterhouse Road and a section of Claremont Road. The survey identified the following:

Last summer, a survey was undertaken in the Brent Cross Cricklewood area to assess the parking needs and where parking restrictions would be required to ensure the safe operation of the road network. The roads covered by the survey in the area included Brent Terrace, Clitterhouse Crescent, Clitterhouse Road and a section of Claremont Road. The survey identified the following:
- heavy parking levels on Brent Terrace, Clitterhouse Crescent and Clitterhouse Road due to parking pressure created from the opening of Claremont Park
- vehicles parking at junctions impacting sight lines and safety for all road users
- apparent displaced parking from existing parking controls and/or adjacent Controlled Parking Zones
- access issues to and from private driveways.

What we are proposing
To address these issues and prevent non-resident parking in the area in the short-term, the Council is introducing an Experimental Controlled Parking Zone as an interim parking control measure.
This provides time to review how well the implemented measures are working and allow for us to make changes where needed following feedback.
This Experimental Controlled Parking Zone will be in operation every day of the week between the hours of 8am to 10pm from Monday 20 March.
Roads covered by the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone will be:
- Brent Terrace
- Clitterhouse Crescent
- Clitterhouse Road
- and a section of Claremont Road.
As part of the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone works, we have installed signage as well as adding and refreshing road markings. We have introduced double yellow lines at all the junctions in the named roads to keep roads clear and reduce obstruction.
For the first 12 months, residential parking permits will be issued free of charge.
If the CPZ is approved, approved permits will be charged in accordance with the current Resident parking permits charging policy.

What happens after the consultation closes?
The council will use the consultation findings to inform our final decision. We will publish the results of the consultation, our decision and how we are acting on the results of the consultation via letter and on this web page during first quarter 2024.
