Overview
In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones.
Following feedback from the initial Brent Cross Cricklewood Experimental Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) consultation, which started 20 March 2023, we have decided to extend the Experimental CPZ and we will continue to monitor the new changes in the area until April 2024.
Initially, the Experimental CPZ operated every day of the week from 8am to 10pm. However as resident feedback so far has indicated that reduced operation timings are preferred.
What we are proposing
To address this feedback, we are extending the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone as an interim parking control measure, to provide time to review how well the implemented measures are working and allow us to make changes where needed following your feedback.
This Experimental Controlled Parking Zone will be in operation every day of the week from 9am to 6pm from Thursday 26 October.
Roads covered by the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone will be:
- Brent Terrace
- Clitterhouse Crescent
- Clitterhouse Road
- and a section of Claremont Road.
As part of the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone works, we have installed signage as well as adding and refreshing road markings. We have introduced double yellow lines at all the junctions in the named roads to keep roads clear and reduce obstruction.
We are also running surveys before and after the opening of the new Brent Cross West station to monitor parking changes.
We said that for the first 12 months of the initial Experimental Controlled Parking Zone, residential parking permits will be issued free of charge. Due to the extension of this consultation, the free permits will also be extended in line.
If the CPZ is approved, permits will be charged in accordance with the current Resident parking permits charging policy. Residents will be notified as early as possible when permit charges will come into effect.

Your views are important to us
We want to hear your views on our proposals. In particular we want to hear from residents, tenants, landlords, managing or letting agents, organisations, businesses and all other interested parties.
From early next year, residents from the Whitefield Estate are expected to move into Plots 53 and 54 which will be the site of 47 new homes. The plots are located between Brent Terrace and Clitterhouse Crescent.
These residents will be allocated 1 space per unit on the plot but those who have more than 1 car will be eligible for permits within the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone. The number of residents with more than 1 car will be limited.
With this change happening soon, we will monitor the impact it has on on-street parking and will review your feedback through this consultation.

What happens after the consultation closes?
We will use the consultation findings to inform our final decision. We will publish the results of the consultation, our decision and how we are acting on the results of the consultation by letter and on this web page during quarter three of 2024.
