Overview

In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses, and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones.

Following concerns raised by residents about parking in the Burnt Oak area, the council undertook an informal parking engagement with properties within the area between 26 May and 30 June 2023. The engagement included seeking views on a proposal to introduce a residential permit parking scheme (CPZ) in the Blundell Road and the surrounding area.

What we are proposing

After taking into consideration a number of factors, including the feedback received during the engagement, it has been agreed to progress with the implementation of an experimental CPZ scheme.

The experimental CPZ will be named Burnt Oak Central Controlled Parking Zone (BOC) and will come into operation on 8 April 2024, for a period of up to eighteen months. The experimental scheme will enable officers to then conduct a statutory consultation before deciding to continue with its permanent implementation.

During the first six months of scheme, from the 8 April, the council will be inviting comments to help assess the effectiveness of the parking controls and then make further changes if required.

Where and how the experimental CPZ Scheme will operate

The experimental CPZ will operate from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6.30pm

Parking restrictions will be implemented in areas of concern to improve road safety. Pay by phone and shared use bays will be implemented in suitable locations to serve the community and support local businesses.

A summary of the roads that are included in the Burnt Oak Central experimental CPZ, and a map of the CPZ are provided in the links below:
