Overview

Barnet has a great collection of parks and open spaces and these are an important part of what makes Barnet a green and family friendly borough. This consultation is asking for your views on proposed improvements to Victoria Park which is in Church End, Finchley (close to Finchley Central and West Finchley tube stations). You can see the location of Victoria Park on the map at the bottom of this page.

Background

The council sold The Lodge in Victoria Park in 2015 and it is a requirement that any funds raised from the sale will only be spent on Victoria Park. Following on from this decision the council appointed Groundwork London (GWL) to identify how best to use this money to enhance the park and its facilities.

Earlier this year GWL consulted with the local community to get a better understanding of the priorities and improvements that residents would most like to see. Over 400 survey responses were received. Based on the findings of this engagement, GWL have drafted a Master Plan complete with design options, and this is the full public consultation on the draft Master Plan.

What are we seeking your views on?

  • the options proposed for play, tennis and a multi-use games area
  • your preference as to what work should be done with the money that is available
  • any comments you may have on the overall draft Master Plan.

How can you give us your views?

  • the council is also running a series of pop up events in the park, so you can come down, look at the overall draft Master Plan and the two options proposed for play, tennis and a multi-use games area. Council staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

    We asked you to comment on the possible options identified for Victoria Park, Finchley.

    You Said

    We received 1,077 responses to the Survey Monkey questionnaire, 11 responses to the Easy Read questionnaire and about 400 people in total attended the 8 pop up events in the park. The top three items that respondents would like to see the money spent on are: new playground facilities, new café and toilets, and resurfacing paths where tree roots have led to an uneven surface.

    We Did

    The results of the public consultation have been passed to Groundwork London (GWL), who will be using this information and the cost of the each potential change, to produce a final master plan for the site and a priority order for the work. A report will be prepared for the meeting of the Environment Committee on 28 November 2018, seeking agreement to the plan, and the order for the work as it is very unlikely that there will be sufficient money to do everything that has been identified.
