Lighting up Barnet with faith, culture and community
Barnet Council’s Winter Festival Fund aims to increase inter-faith and cultural understanding by highlighting religious and cultural festivals and traditions through events that are open to all.
Cllr Barry Rawlings, Leader of Barnet Council, said: “As the days grow shorter and winter arrives, this is a time for people of all faiths and none to come together and celebrate the many festivals that bring light to the winter darkness. From Diwali in October, through Christmas and Chanukah in December, to the Lunar New Year in January, this year’s Winter Festival in Barnet will be a time for all of us to enjoy the different food, music and traditions that our diverse communities and cultures bring to the borough.”
Local communities and organisations can now apply for £500 - £1,000 to host an event to celebrate a winter faith and/or cultural community event in Barnet. The events can place from 12 October to 28 February and the grant can support new or already planned activities that are open to all members of the local community. Examples of events and activities include talks, film showings, performances, art projects and exhibitions, food and cooking events.
