Windrush 75

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the ship HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury docks in 1948, which bought the first passengers from the Caribbean to Britain who were invited to fill labour shortages in the UK after the war.

National Windrush day celebrates the contribution and achievements of the Windrush generation and their descendants.

To kick off the celebrations of this momentous occasion Barnet Council will be working in partnership with the Royal Air Force Museum by hosting a Tea Party on June 13 2023 where members of our Windrush generation are invited to share their Stories. These stories will be retold as part of a display at an event being hosted by the RAF Museum. Wings and Waves: Windrush 75 Family Day - RAF Museum

To reflect the diversity and magnitude of those from the Windrush generation we would like to announce that we will also be supporting one of our Barnet Community Groups, BACA, in launching an exciting project to create a rich legacy of stories and resources that can be accessed by the wider community.
