Do you have an interest in the built heritage of Barnet? This project could be for you.

The local community is being asked to volunteer for a project through a programme of community engagement that will enable volunteers to actively participate in a borough-wide survey of local heritage. This includes surveying the existing list entries and identifying potential new items, which might be included.

Working in partnership with heritage and community engagement consultants Urban Vision Enterprise CIC we are currently recruiting volunteers who will receive free training and support through a mentoring volunteer programme to survey the Borough.

What is a Local List?

The Local Heritage List identifies those heritage assets, which have special local architectural or historic interest and contribute to the character of Barnet. A Local Heritage List provides information on the location of these assets and what it is about them that is significant.

What is a Heritage Asset?

A heritage asset on the local list may be a building, monument, site or place which is significant because of its heritage interest and merits consideration when planning decisions are made.

Barnet Council are inviting Civic Societies, History Groups, Resident Associations and anyone who has an interest in the built heritage or learning more about the history of Barnet to participate. This project is aimed at directly involving local communities in the pro-active recognition and assessment of our local built heritage.

Your time and interest as a volunteer will help to provide up to date information, identifying and discovering new entries to the local list. For further information about locally listed buildings please visit: https://www.barnet.gov.uk/citizen-home/planning-conservation-and-building-control/conservation/Locally-Listed-Buildings.html

How to Get Involved:

In order to register your interest and receive further information including details of our free training events please contact Hannah Barter at Hannah.barter@uvns.org or alternatively call 01538 386221.

This project needs the support of volunteers to deliver its aim, we need you!!
