Transport links

The majority of Barnet residents visit their local high street on foot but if you are planning to use public transport, visit Transport for London to read their safer travel guidance and plan your journey.

Don't forget you must wear a face covering on all public transport unless you are one of a small number of people who are not required to do so by law. Visit our shop safely guidance to understand more about face coverings.

Introduction of cycle lanes

To encourage cycling we are developing a temporary segregated cycle lane along the A1000.

The A1000 is a main north to south route through the borough with further links southwards into central London.

The A1000 links the town centres of Chipping Barnet, North Finchley and East Finchley, and transport hubs in High Barnet, Woodside Park and East Finchley.

We have been successful in attracting funding from central government and Transport for London for the first section of the cycle lane.

Our engineers have designed this first section of the route, from the boundary with Haringey to just south of North Finchley Town Centre.

Construction of this section of the cycle lane is scheduled to start the 21st of September and will take around 4 weeks.

To allow for the cycle lane, some parking bays will be suspended and sections of traffic lanes will be reallocated for the use of cycling.

View the latest design layout of each section of the cycle route (updated 21 September):

Over the next 18 months we will decide whether to continue the segregated cycle lane permanently. We will take into consideration all comments received from the public before making this decision.

If you have any queries regarding the cycle lane please email Traffic Consultations using the reference: A1000 Phase 1.
