The consultation has now closed.
The Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Flood Risk Regulations 2009 have placed new duties on local authorities to manage the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses within their boundaries. The council has a duty under Part 1 Section 9 of the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) to put in place a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) to manage all sources of local flood risk.
As part of this duty the council has produced a draft LFRMS for the borough. The draft strategy is consistent with the regulations set out in the Flood Water Management Act and provides a clear strategic approach to managing flood risk within the borough.
Over the last year we have already consulted with key stakeholders and we are now seeking feedback from the wider public. For more information please read the summary of the objectives and measures we are proposing to implement as part of the strategy, alternatively you can read the full strategy here.
Why We Are Consulting
We welcome your comments on how flood risk will be managed in the borough over the coming years.
We want to give residents, businesses and other key stakeholders the opportunity to comment on our draft strategy so we can ensure it is appropriate and meets the needs of the borough.
In particular we want to hear your views on:
the strategy’s ten objectives and if you think we have missed anything;
what you think of the measures we are planning to implement to achieve our objectives;
if the strategy is clear on who is responsible for managing flood risk in the borough of Barnet;
if the stragey is clear what the sources of flooding are in the borough of Barnet;
any other further comments you may have about the strategy
The feedback we receive will help inform the final strategy which will be published in summer 2017.
