Husband and wife duo Billie and Ali have been running Yum Yums Café in Edgware for 32 years.
‘It’s important to not forget the small businesses on the high street. We’re very passionate about what we do, we feel we’re a little family community here. We have loyal customers who have been coming for 20 odd years. We try to know them by name, have a bit of a chat with them and make them feel welcome here. We do a fresh menu every day and cook homemade dinners and desserts. A lot of our customers just come in for a chat and a cup of coffee every day.
Covid-19 has been a big hurdle for us, which thank god we have survived. We’ve made a lot of adjustments within the shop, bought new tables to socially distance our customers and keep our customers safe. We’ve had deep cleans and all the certificates done for our customers’ benefit and for our own. We want to keep everyone safe and clean, and for everyone to feel confident to come back to the café and try to get back to normality as much as we can.
It’s important to support your local businesses, to keep that sense of community going. A lot of us have lost touch a bit with our family and home life, and we’d like to replicate that and help people get it back. By coming to Yum Yums I feel a lot of our customers are coming home for dinner. We give a warm welcome here and I like to make them feel at home and at ease. We feel our little café plays a big part in the community and long may it live.’
