Overview

In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ).

The council has been made aware of concerns from residents about the high levels of non-resident parking in Crewys Road and neighbouring roads which in turn is making it difficult for residents to find available kerbside parking spaces.

In response to these concerns, the Finchley and Golders Green Area Committee have agreed that this issue should be investigated. We are therefore carrying out a consultation with residents and businesses in the affected roads: Crewys Road, Nant Road, Llanvanor Road, Llanelly Road and Granville Road, located in the southern part of the existing Golders Green CPZ.

This informal consultation is intended to give the council a clearer understanding of the parking issues in these roads to help determine whether any changes will help improve parking availability for local residents.

You can view a plan of the proposal here.

Why we are consulting

We are keen to hear your views. Please take the time to review the plan and then give us your views by completing the questionnaire below. We are asking each household to complete only one questionnaire, so please ensure that the views given are representative of your household.

If you are unable to complete the questionnaire online and would like to request a paper copy of the questionnaire, please email parking.consultations@barnet.gov.uk or telephone the Traffic and Development Section on 020 8359 3555.

Any paper copies should be sent to the Traffic and Development Section, London Borough of Barnet, 6th Floor, Highways, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, NW9 4EW.

If you live in the affected roads we are particularly keen to hear your views. Properties within the affected area have been sent a letter inviting them to complete a questionnaire. If you live in the area and have not received a letter please email us or write to us, using the contact details above.

Please ensure you have completed your questionnaire by Monday 9 December 2019.

All the responses will be analysed and the outcome will help us determine what action needs to be taken to address areas of concern.

    We asked

We asked for your views on whether you would like changes to the existing CPZ hours and days of operation of the CPZ in Crewys Road including Nant Road, Llanvanor Road, Granville Road to address the high levels of non-resident parking in Crewys Road and neighbouring streets, which in turn was making it difficult for residents to find available kerbside space.

We wrote to 855 properties in the vicinity of the existing CPZ, on the proposed changes to CPZ operation times and days. We received 57 responses to the consultation. Overall 53.8% of respondents from Crewys Road said they would prefer longer operations hours to deter commuter parking. Most respondents all the roads said they would prefer the CPZ operational times and days to remain the same. Overall, 6.7% of those consulted responded to the consultation.

Respondents from Granville Road asked for increased enforcement of existing controls on their road and

replacing of vandalised/defaced signs. They said indiscriminate parking on the road is raising safety concerns.

    We did

Based on the feedback received, we are proposing changing the hours of the CPZ operation in Crewys Road from 11am to 12pm to 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Changes will also include the introduction of double yellow lines at the junctions of Crewys Road to improve sight lines and road safety.

Officers have noted concerns regarding parking signs in Granville Road and are looking for the best way to resolve the issue. We have asked Parking Enforcement to increase patrols in the area and to take enforcement action on existing double yellow lines at the junctions.
