The Burroughs and Middlesex University Supplementary Planning Document

Overview

Barnet council is consulting on its Draft The Burroughs and Middlesex University Planning Framework Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

The draft SPD has been developed in collaboration with the local community and local stakeholders. The key issues and opportunities identified in the initial stages of consultation, have shaped the draft vision for transforming the Burroughs into a vibrant and cohesive place for the local community and the educational home of Middlesex University. The draft SPD sets out the development principles that will guide and shape future regeneration opportunities and will be a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to the Barnet Local Plan. Details of how this engagement process has informed the Draft SPD is provided in the Consultation Statement.

Draft The Burroughs and Middlesex University (SPD). aims to:

• Improve community cohesion within the area
• Deliver student and conventional housing.
• Improve traffic and pedestrian movement through the area.
• Enhance the public realm, including traffic calming through The Burroughs.
• Improve linkages with open spaces in Copthall and Sunny Hill.
• Integrate the University campus with the residential hinterland and nearby town centres of Brent Street and Hendon Central.
• Improve contributions to the local economy, as well as diversifying the area’s cultural offer.
• Provide a design guide for future development proposals.

Why we are consulting?

Once adopted, new developments within the boundary of this SPD will be required to be in accordance with the vision, strategy and development principles contained within. We are consulting on the draft SPD and want to hear the views of local residents, visitors, businesses and stakeholders. It is important that residents and other interested parties have their say in the emerging planning policy.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and the continuing requirements for social distancing and the limitations on groups gathering indoors all the meetings will be held online.

The online sessions will enable you to provide your views and ask questions.
