In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones .
Following feedback from the initial Burnt Oak North (BON) Experimental CPZ consultation, which ran from 22 May to 26 November 2023, we have decided to introduce new restrictions and therefore are required to extend the experimental CPZ.

Overview
In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones .
Following feedback from the initial Burnt Oak North (BON) Experimental CPZ consultation, which ran from 22 May to 26 November 2023, we have decided to introduce new restrictions and therefore are required to extend the experimental CPZ.
These new restrictions are detailed below, and we will continue to monitor the changes until November 2024.
All existing restrictions introduced following the completion of the initial consultation have been made permanent, with the CPZ in operation Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm.
What we are proposing
Based on the feedback received, we are proposing the following measures on an experimental basis:
- the shared use bays in Orange Hill Road, Deansbrook Road and Watling Avenue will be changed from ‘Resident permit holders and Pay by Phone’ to ‘Permit holders and Pay by Phone’ to enable all permit holders, including those with business permits to be able to utilise these bays to visit local amenities
- the ‘residents permit only’ bay outside no. 35 Abbots Road will be converted to a shared use bay to further assist visitors to the area and increase parking capacity
- a single yellow line will be added within a parking bay in Orange Hill Road, which will operate between 8am to 9.30am and 3pm to 4.30pm to further assist with drop off and pick up in this area
- double yellow lines will also be added in Market Lane to enhance road safety due to its narrow width (loading will still be permitted)
- a loading bay will be added in Deansbrook Road to assist businesses within the parade of shops
- various amendments to be made to parking restrictions in the North Road Estate and Brearley Close.
As part of the Experimental Controlled Parking Zone works, we have installed signage as well as adding and refreshing road markings. We have introduced double yellow lines at all the junctions in the named roads to keep roads clear and reduce obstruction.

The new restrictions will become operational on Monday 29 April 2024.

The closing date of this statutory consultation is 10 November 2024.
In line with the statutory process, responses to the consultation will be reviewed once the six-month experimental period has ended.
What happens after the consultation closes?
We will use the data obtained from the engagement to inform our final decision. We will publish the results of the scheme, our decision and how we will proceed on this web page by 10 January 2025.
