Consultation on school admission arrangements 2021/22
Consultation has concluded
Overview
Barnet Council is the admissions authority for 40 community primary schools. The council sets the number that will be admitted to each school and two schools wish to reduce the number of pupils they will admit starting in 2021/2022. We would like to hear your views on the requests put forward by both Edgware Primary School HA8 and Queenswell Infant and Nursery School N20.
The request
Both schools have seen a decrease in the demand for school places in the area and have been under-subscribed each year. Therefore, the number of school places available, known as the Published Admissions Number (PAN), does not represent the demand. At present, both schools have a PAN of 90 and are requesting to reduce this PAN to 60 pupils.
These requests are supported by the changing population trends in the borough. A reduction in the PAN will support the school’s financial planning and ensure the most efficient used of the school’s resources. Our projections show that there will be sufficient places for local children if the PAN for this school is reduced. However, if demand for places increases in the future, the PAN will be reviewed. No other changes to the admission arrangements for community schools are proposed.

What happens next?
When the consultation closes, your views will be shared with the schools' governors who will take them into account and decide whether they wish the council to consider the next steps towards the reduction of the PAN.
