Libraries Review (2010)

This consultation has now closed.

We have used the findings from this consultation to develop our Library Strategy. A link to the strategy can be found here.

Consultation was undertaken regarding this strategy during April to June 2011.

Overview

Our library service is successful because it has constantly adapted to meet need. In these times of financial constraint, we need to be even more innovative if we are to provide better services for less money.

To make sure we continue to meet the needs of local residents, we conducted a comprehensive review of our library service (PDF) during Autumn and Winter 2010.

Why we are consulting

We asked for your views on what a library service of the future should look like, how you wanted to receive books, DVDs and other items from our collections, how you wanted to use our reference materials and how we could best use our buildings.

Specifically, we asked for:

  • Your views on what we should prioritise and deliver in the service in the future
  • How you currently use library services, or
  • What prevents you from using library services
  • Your ideas for improvements to library services

What you wanted from a modern public library service

    You Said

That libraries should do more to promote reading and literacy especially amongst children and young people. You also said you wanted improved accessibility, longer opening hours and a better selection of stock. Some respondents said that we should make more use of technology to reduce costs.
