Background
In Barnet, like many other local authorities, we have a system of parking bays and parking permits that prioritises parking for local residents, businesses and their visitors and customers. These systems are called Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ).
Earlier this year, the council was made aware of residents’ concerns regarding the high level of commuter parking within the East Finchley Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in the roads closer to the East Finchley Underground Station, resulting in fewer places for residents to park.

In response to this, the Finchley and Golders Green Area Committee agreed that these concerns should be investigated and carried out a consultation which asked local residents for their views on parking in this area. The outcome of the consultation was discussed at the Finchley and Golders Green Area Committee in April 2019, together with recommended proposals that would alleviate residents’ concerns and help improve the number of parking spaces available for local residents.
What are the proposed changes:
The proposed changes introduce a sub-zone which essentially separates the affected roads from the existing East Finchley ‘M’ car controlled parking zone boundary.
You can view:
- a list of roads and how they will be affected here
- a detail drawing showing the extent of the proposal can be viewed here.
The drawings show the existing ‘M’ parking zone. In summary, the aim of the proposal is to re-introduce the roads under a new CPZ (M1) with the operating hours changed to between 10am and 6pm (please note that this would mean permit holders of ‘M’ zone would no longer be able to use their permits in the ‘M1’ Zone and permit holders of the ‘M1’ Zone would no longer be able to use their permits in the existing ‘M’ Zone).
