The council advises and assists local communities in the preparation of their Neighbourhood Development Plans. A Neighbourhood Development Plan is a statutory planning document setting out general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood. The council is also responsible for approving the designated areas for the plans and designating Neighbourhood Area Forums to develop the plans.

The Council approved designations for West Finchley Neighbourhood Area and Forum back in 26th November 2015 by Barnet Council. Since then the West Finchley Neighbourhood Forum have produced a Neighbourhood Plan for their area; this is currently under

The Council approved designations for West Finchley Neighbourhood Area and Forum back in 26th November 2015 by Barnet Council. Since then the West Finchley Neighbourhood Forum have produced a Neighbourhood Plan for their area; this is currently under examination. Despite this progress, the Forum after 5 years in operation, must now re-apply for formal designation beyond 26th November 2020 for another five years. This is required by the Town and Country Planning Act (1990) and the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations.


As part of this application process the council is now consulting with residents and other interested stakeholders. The following documents have been submitted by the West Finchley Neighbourhood Forum:

Please take the time to view the application documents and submit your comments. Any comments should relate to whether the Forum should be designated as a neighbourhood forum for another five years. No changes are being proposed to the designated Neighbourhood Area, which is shown in the application for information.

    We asked for your views on the West Finchley Neighbourhood Forum re-designation application. The designation of the West Finchley Neighbourhood Area and Forum was approved 26 November 2015 and was therefore due to expire after five years.

    The application generated a largely positive response (54 supporters, one objection and two neutral). Supporters called for the Forum to be re-designated in order to continue the Plan’s progress.
