The Covid-19 pandemic has changed how people in Barnet live, travel and work. The Covid-19 pandemic has changed how people in Barnet live, travel and work. Since the start of the pandemic many of us have been spending more time closer to home, making our neighbourhoods more important than ever. We want our streets to be safe spaces for you to walk and cycle, for children to get to and from school safely and healthily, for businesses to be able to prosper and for you to be breathing cleaner air.
A priority area for making our streets safer and cleaner are the roads around our schools. As part of this priority we have identified ten schools to be part of our safer Schools Street schemes, five of which have already had experimental schemes implemented.
School Street scheme proposals for St Paul’s Church of England Primary School
St Paul’s Church of England Primary School has been identified as a school which would benefit from having a School Street scheme implemented and we are now consulting with residents, and other key stakeholders, on how you feel about the changes and whether the scheme should be made permanent.
- Key elements of the School Street scheme proposals for St Paul’s Church of England Primary School:
- the proposals would see the closure of The Avenue, to general traffic during the school’s peak hours between 8.30 – 9.30am and again in the afternoon between 3.00 – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
- during these hours this section of road will become a Pedestrian and Cycle Zone. The timed closure will be enforced with the use of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras
- only residents, local business located within the School Street, blue badge holders, and emergency vehicles will be allowed vehicular access on the School Street during the prescribed times.
- following government advice, we strongly encourage pupils/parents/carers to travel to school by active means – such as walking, cycling and scooting – and to avoid the use of private vehicles where possible
- we also encourage you to discuss these changes, along with the benefits of the scheme, with your child(ren).
Further details of these proposals are shown on this drawing BC/001950-66.
For further information on the scheme please read our FAQ document.

What happens after the consultation closes
The consultation findings for the scheme will help us determine if the scheme should be made permanent, and if so what actions need to be taken to address any areas of concern. Once a decision has been made, we will write to local residents, business and schools in the affected areas to advise of them of the final decision. The results of the consultation and how we are acting on the results will also be provided on this page too.
If you wish to have your say on another School Street scheme, please return to the main consultation page.
