Consultation has concluded

The poll has now closed. We would like to thank those who responded; we received 344 responses. The selected name went through a process of approval including a four-week consultation. Now approved, we are pleased to announce that the Square will now be officially named Patterson Square, after female RAF and ATA pilot Gabrielle Patterson. The Square also celebrates the contribution made by all female pilots.

We are inviting all who live, work, study and visit the Colindale area to vote on the name for the square outside our office at 2 Bristol Avenue, NW9 4EW.

The square is currently in the process of being revamped to create new seating and new landscaping to improve the look of the area.

To reflect Colindale’s close links to the Royal Air Force since 1914, the council has shortlisted four potential names from the eight female Tiger Moth pilots, known as the First Eight, in the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during the second World War. Each pilot played her part during the war and left a lasting legacy to others. Four of the pilot’s names could not be chosen as part of this process as the surnames were either not compliant with street naming policy or recommendations from the Emergency Services.
