Barnet Council invite residents to host a street party for the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.

In celebration of the Coronation, the celebrations will be taking place across the country from 6 - 8 May 2023.

We want everyone in Barnet to get involved and are encouraging residents to organise street parties alongside their neighbours. If you are looking for ideas for your street party there are lots of resources available at the Coronation Big Lunch.

Street parties are simple to organise. Further guidance and details on how to apply can be found on our Street Parties and Special Events webpage.

You will need to submit an application to us and request a road closure by 31 March 2023. Applications are now closed

Applying is easy and local road closures cost you nothing. We do ask that you plan and apply well in advance. We are expecting a high volume of applications for street events over the Bank Holiday weekend, so please complete and submit your application as soon as possible. .

We will review each application to assess the location’s suitability for such an event. Once approved, we will sort all your street signage and street furniture needed to close your street and leave you to organise your party.

Funding for Community Groups

Registered Community groups can apply for funding for up to £1000.00 to hold a community event in celebration of the Kings Coronation, however we will not be funding street parties.

Examples of events and activities that we can consider for funding include talks, film showings, performances, art projects and exhibitions, food and cooking events and events that promote community cohesion.

Please read the funding guidelines before you apply.

Please return your completed application forms to community@barnet.gov.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 3 April 2023. Applications are now closed.

Events in parks in celebration of the Coronation

Barnet Council will be hosting their own celebratory event for the Kings coronation in partnership with the City of London.

If you are proposing a simple community picnic or gathering in a park, no application will be required if:

  • there are less than 250 people attending
  • no infrastructure or vehicles are brought to site (for example, bouncy castles, stages, or marquees)
  • no activities are proposed which may constitute an ‘event’ (for example, live / recorded music, catering, trading, coordinated or licensable activities). Note: No barbecues are permitted.

If this is the case, please contact the Events Service with the following information – we can tell you if there is already anything taking place at that park to help avoid any clashes:

  1. Site name
  2. Date of picnic or gathering
  3. Expected attendance – a rough estimate is fine
  4. Confirmation of no infrastructure / vehicles
  5. Confirmation of no activities that may constitute an ‘event’.

If you are planning something else, it may be defined as an ‘event’, in which case a formal application will be required. For more information please visit Events in parks.
