Overview

Led by Barnet Council, this innovative and exciting project will integrate new academic and civic spaces along The Burroughs in Hendon, creating a pleasant environment that is safer, greener and more accessible.

In 2021 we consulted with local residents and stakeholders on planned proposals and sites within the Hendon Hub. The planning applications were considered and a resolution to give permission, subject to conditions and a section 106 legal agreement, was granted.

However, in response to the consultation and the community’s feedback in 2021, we have agreed to retain the historic Hendon Library within the listed library building. It is therefore proposed that the current library building will be expanded from its current size, fully refurbished and brought up to modern standards. Also, due to the proposed retention of the library within the existing building, changes to some of the other elements of the plans have been required and as result of these changes we are planning to submit revised planning applications at the end of May 2023 for the Ravensfield and Fenella site, Building B9 and a Listed Building Consent for Hendon Library. The proposed planning applications will:

  • include improved modern spaces in the new buildings for local charities to use
  • ensure all of the original 1930s Hendon Library will be for library and for community uses
  • ensure the Meritage Centre community hall is re-provided for all the community to use
  • provide a new retail space.

We would like find out what you think of these new proposals, and in particular what are your priorities for the new additional spaces we are proposing.

Going forward we want to continue to work with the community to ensure the Hendon Hub regeneration benefits the whole local community.

To assist in answering any further questions that you may have, we have also provided a frequently asked questions (FAQs) document.
