Overview
As our population becomes increasingly sedentary, physical activity is importantly recognised as an essential component of our wellbeing; providing a positive contribution to our physical, mental and emotional health.
To challenge and address inactivity levels within the borough and the rising cost and strain on public services, we have developed a Draft Fit & Active Barnet Framework 2016 – 2021 which you can read here.
The draft document sets out a local framework, with outcomes and proposed commitments for the development of sport and physical activity in Barnet over the next five years. This is underpinned by an intended vision to create a ‘more active and healthy borough’ through a multi-stakeholder approach that includes a diversity of services.
The Draft Fit & Active Barnet Framework has been developed through consultation with key stakeholders including, Barnet and Harrow Public Health, the Voluntary and Community Sector and National Governing Bodies of Sport. Co-ordination and delivery of this Framework will be governed and guided through the implementation of a strategic Fit & Active Barnet Partnership inclusive of a sub group network.
We want to hear your views on whether you think the proposed vision, priorities and commitments are right for the people of Barnet.
You can read the Draft Fit & Active Barnet Framework here.
Why we are consulting
We want to ensure that the Draft Fit & Active Barnet Framework 2016-2021 reflects the right priorities for everyone in Barnet.
Over the last few months we have consulted with key stakeholders including, Barnet and Harrow Public Health, the Voluntary and Community Sector and National Governing Bodies of Sport.
This approach assisted the identification of key commitments to help achieve the four proposed outcomes and intended vision outlined within the Draft Framework.
Engagement with stakeholders also helped develop new, and strengthened existing partnerships, exploring how we can work collaboratively to ‘create a more active and healthy borough’ with a joint ownership ethos.
We want to give everyone the opportunity to have their say on the Draft Framework. In particular, we want to hear your views on:
- the intended vision set out in the Draft Framework
- the outcomes set out in the Draft Framework
- the proposed commitments set out in the Draft Framework
- Whether you or your organisation can support any of the proposed commitments, and how?
- and whether you feel we have missed anything.
