Overview

We want to hear your views on our new Children and Young People’s Plan 2019 - 2023.

Barnet has a large and growing number of children, young people and families and we want to make sure the borough is an excellent place to live for children and their families. We remain committed to our vision to make Barnet the most family friendly borough in London, a concept first introduced in our 2016-2020 plan. Working together with the children and young people and our partners (voluntary community sector, police, education & health services) we have developed a new Children and Young People’s Plan 2019 - 2023. It is a four-year plan that establishes the vision, key priorities and outcomes for children and young people in Barnet, providing a strategic framework for partnership activity in the borough. It enables us to help children and young people to reach their full potential and enjoy their rights within our community.

The plan is supported by our work with global children’s charity, UNICEF UK, to embed children’s rights across the borough which means their voices are heard and their priorities influence the decisions which affects their lives. We are the first London borough to work with UNICEF UK through the Child Friendly Cities and Communities programme (CFCC). For more information please click here.

The plan sets out seven key outcomes for children and young people:

  • Safe & Secure - Children and young people are safe and protected from harm
  • Family & Belonging – Families and children can be together and part of a community that encourages resilience
  • Health & Wellbeing - Children are supported to achieve a healthy start in life, enjoy a healthy lifestyle and to build resilience
  • Education & Learning – Children and young people can learn about the world around them
  • Culture – Our attitudes and behaviours enhance the way we work with children and young people
  • Cooperation & Leadership – We include children and young people in decision making
  • Communication – Information is shared effectively to children, young people and families across the borough.
