Overview

We have been allocated funding to improve play facilities across the borough. There is a fixed amount of funding available so the council has identified play facilities which would benefit the most from refurbishment.

Ducks Island has been identified as one of the play areas that would benefit from improvements, and we have assigned £100,000 to make improvements to the play facilities.

What are we seeking your views on?

We would like to know what you think about the play facilities we are proposing to implement at Ducks Island Playground. You can view the 2D proposals for the playground

What are we seeking your views on?

We would like to know what you think about the play facilities we are proposing to implement at Ducks Island Playground. You can view the 2D proposals for the playground, the 3D proposal for the playground and also the individual pieces of proposed equipment.

How can you give us your views?

Please take the time to complete the online questionnaire.

We will also be running two pop-up events in Ducks Island, so you can view the proposals. Council staff will be on hand to discuss the plans and answer any questions you may have. The pop-up events will take place at Ducks Island, Barnet, EN5 on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 20 July 10:30am - 13:00pm
  • Thursday 4 August 10:30am - 13:30pm

To request a questionnaire in an alternative format, please email parks@barnet.gov.uk or telephone 020 8359 7404.

Alternatively, you can write to us at: parks@barnet.gov.uk or Greenspaces, London Borough of Barnet, 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, NW9 4EW.

If you wish to have your say on another playground, please return to the Parks Improvements consultation homepage.

What happens next?

We will review the feedback to see if there is any interest in changing the play facilities and we will make any amendments to the plans where possible and within the budget allocated. The improvement work to the playground is likely to take place in 2023.

The council will publish the consultation findings on this page, and we will also let you know how we are acting on the results of the consultation under ‘We asked, You said, We did'.

    We asked

We asked for your views on the refurbishment of the Ducks Island playground.

    You said

We received 106 responses to the online questionnaire, and we spoke to 14 people at the two events we ran in the playground. The key themes from the public consultation were requests for the following:

    • to extend the playground/have more equipment for older children
    • steps to young multi play unit rather than a net
    • facilities for disabled children including those unable to move from a wheelchair
    • a splash park
    • imaginative equipment and interactive equipment
    • a roundabout.

    We did

Following the feedback received we developed a revised plan, which includes:

    • the net to access the young multi play unit has been replaced with steps.
    • a wheelchair accessible roundabout has been included.
    • the play panels have been selected to be interactive.

The order has been placed for this design, and it is likely to be installed in March 2023.

In response to the requests, we will not be providing equipment for older children in this location, as when this was provided in the past there were issues of anti-social behaviour. We do not have sufficient budget to extend the play area. We also do not have the facilities or budget to maintain a splash park.
