Overview

The SEND Strategy 2021 – 2024 builds on the strong foundations and achievements made over the last three years to support children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families. Although a lot of progress has been made on the priorities identified in the previous SEND Strategy 2017 - 2020, we know that there is more to do, particularly in relation to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children and young people with SEND. The SEND Strategy 2021 – 2024 will set out the priorities for the next three years, and is for everyone involved in special educational needs and disabilities covering the Local Area in Barnet, including the local authority, all educational settings, the clinical commissioning group in health (CCG) and specialist services in health.

Work undertaken over the last two years by the SEND partnership in Barnet has fed into the Draft SEND Strategy, 2021 – 2024. This has included internal reviews, feedback from visits by Ofsted, Care Quality Commission, Department for Education, as well as regular feedback from parent carers, young people with SEND, education settings, and specialist practitioners.

In summary, the SEND Strategy 2021 – 2024 will set out the following:

  • A vision for all children and young people with SEND in Barnet;
  • Clear aims for the strategy, principles and ways of working to support best practice in SEND;
  • Priorities for the next three years, and measures of success. These will provide the basis for a detailed Action plan for the relevant working groups across the SEND partnership who will be responsible for taking the actions forward.

We want to give families, and all those who support children and young people with SEND, including those in receipt of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and children and young people who receive support through SEN Support the opportunity to have their say on the vision, aims, and priorities for the next three years set out in the Draft SEND Strategy. We will take your views, ideas, opinions and feedback on board.
