Get involved in local planning. The Local Plan is the key planning document for Barnet. This is your chance to influence its content.

Overview

Whether you are planning to undertake a development or want to find out how future development may affect your area, the Local Plan will be of interest to you. We are working with residents, local and national interest groups and service providers in order to shape a Local Plan that responds to the challenges we face around population growth and climate change, while providing the guidance that ensures future development meets the needs of the borough and are delivered in an agreed way.

What does our Local Plan include?

Our Local Plan sets out a vision for how Barnet will change as a place over the next 15 years and forms a strategy which emphasises the borough’s attractiveness as a place to live, work and visit. The plan will replace the existing 2012 Local Plan and provide the main basis upon which future developments and planning applications will be determined.

The plan is divided into chapters, you can read the different chapters that interest you by clicking on the separate links provided in the document Library on this page. Alternatively you can read the full Local Plan here.

Background evidence papers on how we have developed our plan can be viewed on our Planning Policy Local Plan Evidence and Supporting Documents pages.

How to give us your views:

We welcome your input on the our draft Local Plan which will have an impact on the people who live, work, operate a business or visit the borough as well as future generations.

Please take the time to read the Local Plan before completing our online questionnaire.

We are also running a series of public events for the Local Plan, where you can come along and view the plan. Council staff and representatives will be on hand to discuss the priorities and objectives, and answer any questions.
