Sustainable Travel
We have pledged to be carbon neutral as a council by 2030.
In the lead up to Clean Air Day this Thursday, we’d like to share with you some of the things that we’re doing to achieve sustainable travel. From securing more than £3.5m to install 500 electric vehicle charging points over the next year (200 we have already installed), to offering free cycling training, it’s fundamental that we all do our bit to improve air quality in the borough.
You can help improve air quality in Barnet by:
Leaving your car at home, at least occasionally - and especially on Clean Air Day - while travelling to school or work. You’ll improve your health and fitness in the process!
If you must drive, do not idle your engine, while you’re waiting for someone, or in traffic -turn your engine off if you’re not moving.
Engage in some active travel and enjoy some of our beautiful green spaces while travelling from A to B - have you heard of the beautiful Dollis Valley Greenwalk? It’s 10 miles long and stretches from Moat Mount, Mill Hill, through Barnet and into Hampstead Heath. https://www.barnet.gov.uk/parks-sport-and-leisure/walks-and-trails/dollis-valley-greenwalk
Making sure your vehicle is compliant with the new legislation - The Ultra Low Emission Zone is due to expand in 2023 to cover the whole of Greater London, including the borough of Barnet: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/proposed-ulez
