"We're like a big family here. Several of us have worked here for over 20 years, and we helped each other to stay safe, and to be strong and brave. It was stressful and a bit scary in the beginning. Each day you had to come to work and you didn't know what was going to happen. We had to make sure that everyone coming into The Broadwalk was safe. We had to be toilet marshalls too, because they were still open and everybody wanted to use the toilet at the same time. So we had to make sure they weren't queuing too close together. That meant we had to talk to people and not everyone was wearing a mask. We had to calm down some arguments, and to stop people from stealing sanitisers too. But they taught us what to do, and staying home would have been even more stressful. You've got the kids at home, they can't go to school, you're listening to the news - 'Oh, today, 100 people passed away'.

“Not everyone was allowed to be working, some of them had to isolate. Management were working from home, so we had to take over the on-site management too. Being with the crew and knowing we'd been trained in how to manage the risk, that helped to take your mind off it. In the end, it was OK. It was a good experience. We had to be there for people, and we had to be our best. It's life isn't it? We will all pass away one day. Most of the time, people don't respect what we do, but during this pandemic we felt so special that we felt proud."
