"We had to shut down during the pandemic, moving was stopped for 2-3 months. So all our staff were on furlough and most of our trucks and vans were sitting idle. We're normally very busy. We're not used to having nothing to do, so we had time to reflect: 'What can we do to help?'. When I read a newspaper story about how the local food bank was really struggling thanks to a serious shortfall in donations, we started dropping off donation boxes for people to fill. We got a really good response and collected half a ton of food in the first week, so we followed that up with an email asking people if they could do or give more. We ended up taking over 10 tons of food into local food banks in 3 vans and my daughter Ivy (who was 6 then, she's now 8) came with me.
"After the first lockdown, we went back to working normally but for the past 10 months we've carried on helping a local charity - the Stonegrove Community Trust - delivering furniture and kitchen equipment, fitting that around our other paid work. We've also long-supported the North London Hospice, donating our time and vehicles to help with Fun Runs and other stuff because they looked after my grandfather. My family have lived in Finchley for generations, I was born and bred here, and my dad started Rogers Removals in 1969. It's popular locally and we want to do what we can to give back."
