ASB Awareness Week
Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week 2023 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.
Organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, the week features a series of events all across the UK involving councils, police forces, housing associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.
Here in Barnet, The Community Safety team organised several initiatives across the borough to mark ASB Awareness Week 2023.
The Barnet Community Safety Team joined Change Grow Live to launch the ASB awareness week on Monday 3 July 2023, by hosting a pop-up community safety hub at Grahame Park Estate.
The Barnet Community Safety Team, the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, and NSL collaborated on a high visibility reassurance patrol in the Burnt Oak Ward on Tuesday 4 July 2023.
Ten PCNS were issued by NSL while 20 incidents were reported for environmental and anti-social behaviour offences.
In the afternoon, Community Safety team and the safer neighbourhood team patrolled Edgware ward, where a person was discovered to be in possession of marijuana. A fixed penalty notice was issued to him on the spot for breach of the public space protection order. The police also gave the individual a penalty notice for disorder.
On Wednesday 5 July 2023, the Barnet community safety team conducted patrols within Barnet and witnessed five individuals committing a littering offence all of them were issued with an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice.
On Thursday 6 July 2023, the Barnet Community Safety Team -joined up with the Street Scene Team to investigate waste at fly tipping hotspots and addressed the issues by reporting the alleged offenders for the offence.
On the same day, the Barnet Community Safety Team officers were paired with Safer Neighbourhood Policing Teams and patrolled hotspot locations to deter anti-social behaviour within the borough.
On Friday 8 July 2023, the Community Safety Team worked with Trading Standards and the Safer Neighbourhood Policing team in a joint operation at a local Car Park. During the operation, one individual was arrested for handling stolen products and the Community Safety Team provided valuable assistance to Trading Standards in seizing counterfeit goods from the individual’s stall. As a result, the operation yielded a successful outcome, demonstrating the effectiveness of our combined efforts.
The Community Safety Team then went on to discover a significant amount of cannabis on the same day while conducting a routine patrol of the borough. The incident was reported to the police, who visited the scene, collected the evidence, and are currently investigating the matter.
On Sunday 9 July 2023, the Barnet Community Safety Team were joined by local emergency services for a pop-up community safety hub which was held at Moat Mount open space where partners from Transport for London, London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police joined us to promote ASB Awareness Week 2023.
Throughout the week, 20 fixed penalty notices were issued by the Community Safety Team for offences related to the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.
58 other cases were also reported for environmental and anti-social behaviour matters.
The Barnet Community Safety Team has been praised for their outstanding work and earned well-deserved recognition and gratitude from partners for their continued dedication and exceptional performance.
